Electric Nissan LEAF Limo Debuts

You have never seen anything like it. Inside it's a limo and outside it's a stretched Nissan LEAF. "This is the world's first road-worthy, licensed, street legal electric limousine, and this is it," said Trevor Goulding, director of sales for Embassy Suites Nashville South.

"I don't know how they did it, if they cut a car in half, but it's really interesting and fun that they did," said first-time passenger Krystal Serrano.

The Embassy suites hotel in Nashville, Tennessee needed a new way to shuttle guests. Their typical trip is less than five miles from the hotel. The hotel chain is committed to luxury and going green, so they contracted a company to create a LEAF limo.

"The LEAF will be primarily VIP car service, anybody who is looking for that special treatment to get around in the area," said Goulding.

A company out of Missouri made the modifications. They kept most of the Nissan LEAF's essential parts intact. There is still just one battery pack, but it now sits in the back for balance. They added about 400 pounds in the center of the car to make room for more seating. And they added mirrors, plush leather and cedar paneling, synonymous with luxury limos

Many of the hotel's guests have never even been inside an electric car before. Krystal Serrano never had until she rode for the first time in the hotel's LEAF limo. "It feels so smooth. You can't even really hear the engine running, but it wasn't like being in a golf cart either. It was like being in a limousine," said Serrano.

Nissan LEAF Sets Record

The multiple award-winning Nissan LEAF rewrote the record books this weekend as the fastest car over a measured mile (1.6km) in reverse.

Driven by professional stunt driver Terry Grant, the Nissan LEAF raced backwards up the famous Goodwood hillclimb course at the weekend's Festival of Speed, covering the distance in 1m 37.02s at an average speed of 88.5km/h (55 mph).

Having set the record on Friday, the opening day of the Festival, Terry went on to smash his time on Saturday and Sunday, shaving an amazing 26 seconds off Friday's time.

The Nissan LEAF Reverse Record was just one of a number of Nissan highlights at the Festival. The dramatic race-prepared Nissan LEAF NISMO RC raced against the clock (and in the correct direction) to set a hill record for electric vehicles. It was driven by current FIA GT1 world champion Michael Krumm, who also drove his 540-hp GT-R GT1 racer up the hill. The newest production GT-R Track Pack took part in the Supercar Run, while the stunning Juke-R - a GT-R in Juke's clothes - also wowed the crowds.

"Easy-Fill Tire Alert" System Featured on Nissan Vehicles

As National Tire Safety Week kicks-off across the country, today Nissan confirmed plans to make the "Easy-Fill Tire Alert" system available on all future models it brings to market beginning in 2013.  This safety feature, which also bolsters fuel economy, is one of the automaker's latest innovations.  It currently comes standard on all 2013 Nissan Altima, 2012 Nissan LEAF, and 2012 Nissan Quest models with standard or optional availability on more products to follow later this year as the automaker continues its launch of five all-new models in the next 15 months.

The "Easy-Fill Tire Alert" system is an all-new control module currently being phased into vehicle redesigns like that all-new 2013 Nissan Altima.  First, the vehicle's tire-pressure warning system alerts a driver to a low tire; and on some models displays the current pressure and tire or tires that require attention on the dashboard display.  When alerted, drivers should stop at the nearest gas station to fill the tire with an available air hose.  Once air begins flowing into the tire, the vehicle's four-way flashers come on to confirm the process has started.  When the tire hits the appropriate pressure level, the horn then chirps to let drivers know the tire has been properly inflated.  If the driver continues to fill the tire with air, the horn honks more aggressively to indicate over inflation.  Once air is let out of the tire, the horn chirps once to indicate the correct pressure has been reached.

"Nissan's 'Easy-Fill Tire Alert' system is straight forward and eliminates the need to keep a tire gauge in your vehicle's glove compartment," said Pierre Loin, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc.  "By making this unique Nissan innovation available on all our future products, the guessing and the gauge vanish for our customers."

2013 Nissan Altima Production Begins

Nissan and its Canton employees are celebrating a milestone today as the first Canton-produced fifth-generation Altima rolled off the assembly line. The Canton Vehicle Assembly Facility began producing the award-winning Altima in 2004 and since has built more than 1.1 million of Nissan's best-selling vehicle.

This Altima "Job 1" is the latest production achievement at Canton, which currently builds the Altima on three shifts. Canton also is a global center of excellence for Nissan's body-on-frame truck production. This fall, the Frontier midsize pick-up truck and the Xterra SUV will shift production to Canton, from Nissan's Smyrna, Tenn., plant where they are built today.

"Today's successful start of production of the Nissan Altima, our top-selling vehicle, only can happen because of the support of our dedicated workforce in Canton," said Bill Krueger, vice chairman, Nissan Americas. "The Canton team builds among the highest-quality vehicles in the industry, and we are looking forward to bringing their production expertise to the next generation of this award-winning car."

It still drives like the beast we knew, with meaty chunks of awesome that hit you in face: those Recaros, the smorgasbord of nerdtastic performance menus on the LCD screen, that purposeful steering wheel flanked by rubber-edged magnesium paddles, and, of course, gut-squashing acceleration and handling. There is a bit of polish and refinement that's immediately noticeable, too, like the way the plastic radio knobs have been replaced by cool machined versions that twist with a satisfying clickety-click. Comfort mode is now truly more comfortable, and the buzzing/whirring from the dual-clutch, rear-mounted transaxle transmission seems softer and smoother.

The new Z®, which is scheduled to go on sale at Nissan dealers nationwide next June, features a number of enhancements designed to keep the legendary sports car fresh and exciting. For 2013, the Nissan 370Z will once again be available in Coupe, Roadster and NISMO Z configurations.

The updates for the new model year include:

• Refreshed front fascia with vertical LED daytime running lights
• Red reflector added to rear fascia (replaces previous black center cover)
• Revised 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels (Sport Package equipped models)
• New 18-inch wheels for 370Z Coupe

Motor Trend Takes First Drive of Nissan Juke R

Motor Trend was able to take a drive in the newly-debuted Nissan Juke R and had this to say about the experience:

The first thing you notice when entering the Juke R is how much further back you sit compared to the standard Juke. Even though you're in a fully bolstered racing seat with five belts to cinch you in tightly, it's incredibly comfortable. Once I was strapped in, I pushed the same starter button found in the GT-R to bring Juke R to life, and off I went for some laps around the Dubai Autodrome.

The acceleration and sound are identical to the last-generation GT-R, but when I first turn the wheel, there is a nimbleness not found in the GT-R. The Juke R feels much livelier. I feel the weight shift when I get on the brakes. Initial turn-in is incredibly crisp and immediate. The body rolls over just a touch, the car rotates, the AWD system works its magic, and I slowly start to ease back on the throttle as the tires struggle for grip but manage to claw incredibly hard through and out of corners. It's a uniquely amazing driving experience. This is one of those cars that, given enough seat time, you soon would be doing four-wheel drifts out of any corner you wanted.

2013 Nissan GT-R Pricing Announced

Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today announced U.S. pricing for the 2013 Nissan GT-R, which is on sale now at Nissan dealers nationwide. Following a major revision just last year, the 2013 Nissan GT-R receives a number of impressive performance enhancements, reinforcing the flagship supercar’s spirit of continuous advancement. Horsepower has been boosted to 545 hp (from 530 hp), with torque now rated at 463 lb-ft (from 448 lb-ft). In addition, the suspension has been retuned to enhance both performance and comfort. Other changes for the 2013 model year include a standard RearView Monitor and the Black Edition receives a new dry carbon fiber rear spoiler.

The 2013 Nissan GT-R continues to be an incredible value, rivaling the fastest production supercars at a fraction of the price. First Colorado Nissan LEAF Purchase at Empire Lakewood Nissan

In June 2011, under beautiful blue Colorado skies at the 89th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, veteran Nissan off-road truck racing champion Chad Hord, and the 100 percent electric Nissan LEAF, made history as the first winners of the Electric Production Class.

Under very different weather conditions, with the forecast predicting eight- to ten-inches of snow in the Denver area, the Nissan LEAF made history again on Dec. 22. Derek Passarelli, an attorney with the Department of Energy’s Colorado field office, purchased a Nissan LEAF at family-owned Empire-Lakewood Nissan, commemorating the first sale of the vehicle in the state of Colorado.

“I’m buying the Nissan LEAF because I would like to walk-the-talk for what I do at work, and I believe in this,” said Passarelli.
